Nervous had always had the impression that he didn't deserve happiness. He'd gotten it from years of exasperated sighs from the workers at the orphanage who didn't know what to do with him anymore, of Loki and Circe having to chastise him for all the things he did wrong.
He knew there was something wrong with him, as both the orphanage's staff and the Beakers could testify. He didn't know what it was, since almost every diagnosis he read about seemed to describe him in some ways. That was the reason the orphanage had finally just given up and let the Beakers have him; Circe was a doctor, Loki was a scientist, and both claimed to know something about what was wrong with Nervous.
They'd promised to fix him.
