Drabble: No-Win Scenario

Nervous couldn't believe what he was hearing.
He'd come to term long ago with the idea that he didn't have a family, and now he was being told about his mother, Olive Specter. The woman who was being accused of being a serial killer and would be put on trial, and who'd after about twenty years tracked down her son and named him her heir.
It had always been a no-win situation for Nervous; his options were the Beakers or foster care, then the Beakers or homelessness. But now, maybe he had a chance at something better. At being normal.
